Sakura 2024 At Gardens By The Bay

Get ready to embrace the beauty of cherry blossoms and immerse yourself in the captivating world of Japanese culture as Gardens by the Bay unveils its “Sakura Blossom into the night” floral display and a mesmerizing lineup of activities celebrating Japan including 2 days of total anime transformation.

Starting in March, this annual event promises to be a treat for the eyes and nose, transporting visitors to the heart of the Land of the Rising Sun.

As the delicate sakura trees burst into bloom, the tranquil landscapes are transformed into a breathtaking canvas reminiscent of Japan’s serene gardens and the iconic Golden Pavilion – a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

At night, the enchanting Yozakura (night sakura) experience offers a magical ambience, with cherry blossom trees illuminated and whimsical light projections dancing across the ground under the night sky.

In collaboration with the Japan Creative Centre (JCC), Gardens by the Bay also has an array of exciting cultural programmes that showcases the rich tapestry of Japanese traditions. Some of these programmes are only available to ticket holders while others are free to the public too. Ticket holders to the Flower Dome can revel in exclusive highlights, however there are more than enough programmes to ensure everyone can immerse themselves in the vibrant festivities. Hibikiya

Prepare to be mesmerized by the thunderous rhythms of the taiko drums, performed by the renowned Japanese drum group Hibikiya. Their captivating performance, accompanied by traditional Japanese instruments and dances, will really show you just how passionate these performances can get!

Yosakoi

Continuing the celebration of dance and music, witness the vibrant Yosakoi performance, a unique blend of tradition and modernity, featuring the unique Naruko instrument and energetic clapping dances. Witness the dancers perform in sync with one another as they merge rhythm with elegance.

Japanese Tea Ceremony

For those seeking a more serene and meditative experience, the Japanese tea ceremony, known as Chanoyuor Chado, invites you to partake in the ceremonial preparation and serving of matcha and Japanese sweets, offering a glimpse into the country’s rich cultural heritage.

This exclusive experience is available to Flower Dome ticket holders on various dates and times throughout the event.

Koto

But the festivities don’t stop there! Visitors can indulge in a plethora of free cultural programmes too, such as the iconic sounds of the Koto, Japan’s national instrument, performed by the Koto Group of The Japanese Association Singapore who will take you on a melodic journey that truly encapsulates Japan through this historical instrument.

Japanese Folk Dance

Also immerse yourself in the captivating world of Japanese folk dances, brought to life by the Minyo Club of The Japanese Association Singapore, showcasing the diverse traditions from all across the archipelago.

Aikido Demonstration

If you’re a martial arts enthusiast you’ll like this next one, there will be an Aikido demonstration; Aikido also known as “The Art of Peace”, is a Japanese discipline that emphasizes harmony and self-defence without inflicting harm.

Suzume Odori

The enchanting Suzume Odori, or “Sparrow Dance,” will captivate audiences with its unique, birdlike movements, vibrant costumes, and mesmerizing fan dances, courtesy of the talented members of Sendai Suzume Odori Singapore.

JCC Cinema: Josee, the Tiger and the Fish

If you’re in the mood for a more relaxed experience and want to rest those weary legs, indulge in “JCC CINEMA: JOSEE, THE TIGER AND THE FISH,” a heartwarming anime that follows the unlikely friendship between a university student and a young girl who has rarely ventured outside due to her inability to walk.

Touring Springtime Japan

Additionally, the “Touring Springtime Japan” programme offers a rich tapestry of Japanese culture and cuisine, allowing visitors to explore the unique offerings from six key regions of the country. Don’t miss the opportunity to experience the age-old tradition of mochi pounding, where flour is aggressively pounded into a deliciously sticky mochi cake.

And the excitement doesn’t stop there! From March 30th to 31st, Gardens by the Bay transforms into an anime wonderland with the return of Anime Garden after a four-year hiatus. Immerse yourself in the vibrant world of Japanese pop culture, meet celebrity cosplayers like BaoBao, catch performances by popular anisong artistes, indulge in mouthwatering Japanese street eats, and bring home exclusive anime merchandise.
