Countries in Asia you can visit from Singapore via the VTL (Vaccinated Travel Lane)

The coronavirus has been tough on hodophiles and people who travel for work. It has been difficult to go abroad, which becomes worrisome especially if your work relies on traveling. But thankfully, countries have introduced VTL, Vaccinated Travel Lane, which allows travellers to travel to specific countries as long as they are vaccinated. Singapore’s VTL is making it easier for travellers to return home, travel for work, or even travel for vacations. And, the best part is, these vaccinated travellers who travel through the VTL do not have to undergo quarantine, which makes traveling even more stress-free than expected.

What is the Singapore Vaccinated Travel Lane?

The Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) is an arrangement on Singapore’s part which allows vaccinated travelers to enter Singapore from specific countries without the need to undergo quarantine. The VTL also enables travellers from Singapore to travel to these specific countries. However, it is important to note that not all cities of a country are open to the Vaccinated Travel Lane; some countries are still fighting against the coronavirus and only the cities which are relatively safe from the virus or have recorded lower numbers of people affected by the coronavirus are open to the VTL.

How Does the VTL Benefit Me?

The VTL has drastically improved the struggles of a traveller. Prior to the VTL, travellers even with negative results were required to stay in a 10 days or more quarantine period, which did help fight the virus but also could have disrupted some travellers’ plans. For example, those who travelled for business, family emergencies, or similar circumstances had to remain in quarantine which did cause some inconvenience.
However, now that the VTL is open, travellers who test negative for the virus can start their plans from the first day of arrival and do not have to undergo a quarantine period.

Who is Eligible for the VTL? What Are the Requirements?

The VTL comprises a list of specific countries and their cities from which and to which people can travel. To be eligible for the VTL, you must be Singaporean, Permanent Resident or hold a Employment Pass.

There are not many requirements for travelling via the VTL; however, you must test negative within 72 hours of your flight and present an authentic negative coronavirus test and your vaccination records along with all other documents necessary for travel. Without a negative covid-19 test and vaccination records, you will not be able to travel, even if your country qualifies for the VTL.

Which Countries in Asia Can I Visit From Singapore Via the VTL?

If you’re looking to travel through Singapore’s VTL, specifically Asian countries, then we’ve got your back. Here are the countries in Asia (and their cities) that you can visit from Singapore via the Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL):

Brunei’s battle with the coronavirus is still ongoing which is why you can only travel to and from Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei’s capital city. Luckily, because the capital city is a great spot for tourism and is one of the prime producers of furniture, textiles, and timber, this city alone welcomes hundreds of tourist and travelling workers.

Through the Singapore VTL, you can now visit Cambodia. Of course, the VTL also allows travellers to visit from Cambodia to Singapore. The Cambodian cities that are open to the VTL are Siem Reap, a resort town that is an ultimate tourist destination, and Phnom Penh, the capital city which is known worldwide for its diverse and beautiful culture.

From Singapore, you can travel to China easily via the VTL. The Chinese cities that are accommodated by the Vaccinated Travel Lane are SAR (Special Administrative Regions of China) which includes Hong Kong SAR and Macau SAR.

Initially, the Singapore VTL was only open to some Indian cities which included Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Delhi, and Chennai, all major cities of the country. However, starting March 15, Singapore VTL announced its opening to almost all the cities of India and is continuing to extend itself to all of India.

Indonesian cities that are open to the VTL are Denpasar, Bali, and Jakarta. Denpasar is the capital of Bali, a popular Indonesian province, and is one of the most crowded cities during peak tourist times. Jakarta, the largest city in Southeast Asia is a cultural, economic, and political hub.

Malaysian cities open to Singapore’s VTL are Penang and Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysian capital city.

Maldives is one of the most beautiful countries in the world and has been a favorite of tourists for years. However, through the Singapore VTL, you can only visit Male, the capital city. But Male alone is a great place for travel so cheer up.

The Philippines is yet another Asian country that you can visit from Singapore via the Vaccinated Travel Lane. However, the cities open to the VTL are limited; so far, you can only visit Manila, the capital city. Two more cities, Cebu, a popular vacation destination, and Davao, an urbanized city will open to the VTL starting April 1st, 2022.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka has remained in the countries which are still struggling with the coronavirus which is why the only city open to the VTL, for now, is Colombo, the capital city.

The Singapore VTL is open to two cities of Thailand: Phuket, a city extremely enriched with culture and history, and Bangkok, the capital city of the country.

You can visit Vietnam from Singapore or vice versa via the Singapore Vaccinated Travel Lane through three cities. Hanoi, the Vietnamese capital; Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), the largest city of Vietnam and also its biggest business and financial hub; and Da Nang, known as the tourist capital because of its extremely gorgeous scenery and culturally and historically important spots.
