Bumbu Restaurant: Thai-Indonesian Cuisine

Bumbu is a lovely and quaint Halal-certified Thai-Indonesian fusion restaurant that has been operating out of the same shophouse for the past 20 years. The entrance is adorned with a lavish gold traditional design that is hard to miss. Once inside, the bright antique wooden-y layout creates a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Vintage and relic pieces carefully curated by the owner over the years add to the antiqueness of the place, and Bumbu aims to “let their customers experience and appreciate Peranakan culture by immersing them in the unique ambience that they have created.

Now for the most important part, the food! Being both Halal-certified and vegetarian friendly, Bumbu takes into consideration the dietary needs of all customers.

To start, try their freshly fried in-house crackers paired with their homemade Sambal Belachan or their Ngoh Hiang, a type of special spiced meat roll. Deciding on a starter is the easy part, as you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to a main course.

Classic Thai dishes such as Tom Yum, Green Curry Chicken/Beef, Steamed Fish with Spicy Lime Sauce, and Thai-style Kang Kong are available, alongside Indonesian dishes like mouthwatering Chilli Prawns swimming in a fiery sauce waiting to be mopped up with some mantau, Buah Keluak Chicken, and Beef Rendang that falls apart in your mouth.
